Air conditioning

How it works, and where it sits

A reverse cycle air conditioner is a heat pump for air. In summer it moves heat from inside the room to the outdoor unit. In winter the cycle reverses and it moves heat from the outside air into the room. The electricity runs the compressor and the fans. Air conditioning is step 05 of our ten-step order, after 04 EV charger and before 06 Induction cooktop.

Savings figures

We publish no dollar figure for air conditioning. The questions that matter for your quotes are the capacity that suits each room, split or ducted, where the indoor and outdoor units go, and how it fits with solar. Start with a plan before you ask for quotes.

What an installer must hold

Installers provide a licence and accreditation number before they can take a job. For air conditioning that means an ARCtick licence for the refrigerant work and a Queensland electrical contractor licence for the electrical connection.

What to expect from a quote

Up to three installers quote on a residential job. Ask each installer to set out unit make, model and capacity in kW for each room, split or ducted, indoor and outdoor unit positions and pipe runs, any switchboard work, removal of the old unit, the product and workmanship warranty terms, what is excluded, and the install date. One enquiry, up to three quotes from local installers.
